Japanese Economy Forecast Indicator

This is a picture of a young Japanese woman getting her hair cut. The title of this post is about forecasting the economy.

So where’s the beef? Interestingly, researchers at Kao (the Japanese personal care products giant) claim that there is a correlation between the length of hair on Japanese women and the economy. According to the Reuters article:

Economic forecasters beware: Japanese women are cutting their hair again.

Women tend to wear their hair long when Japan’s economy is doing well and short when there is a slump, the Nikkei business daily reported, citing a survey conducted by Japanese cosmetics company Kao Corp.

As for Japan’s future economic performance, the Nikkei pointed to expectations for a trend towards shorter hairstyles.

Looks like the average Japanese woman also know a thing or two about holding a short position on the market aye?

Meat Part Keychain

Any of you can’t separate tenderloin from sirloin? Yeah, me neither. These little key chains called ‘Gotoshi Dissection Animals‘ help you distinguish each part of the animal. They’re not actually limited to only popular edible animals though – I doubt, for example, that you eat pandas on a regular basis.

What’s the catch (pardon the pun)? Well you’d have to learn Japanese first before you can understand the naming – so it may still be easier to memorize the anatomy!

Vii (Wii copycat) Disassembled

vii-rip-off

Nintendo Wii’s been so successful, it’s still unable to fully satisfy demands despite running in peak production for over a year. So what do enterprising (and morally suspect) businesses do? Ride on the wave of rip off, of course. Many of you may have seen the ‘Vii’ – a Chinese copycat of the Wii. But it was the opening of the Vii’s innards that got me laughing rather hard.

They must’ve mastered the art of circuit miniaturizing, eh? I really wonder what that pathetic circuit board does. At about 12:17 you can also see an iron plate included within the case part to give it more weight. This is simply hilarious.
